1. You Do Not Have to Be a Computer Genius to Work in Gaming

Gaming is not just about programmers and designers. Basic computer skills are important of course, as most of what happens during the day is digitized, but you do not need to be a coding expert in order to work for a gaming company. Coders and programmers are necessary, but for a game to be created, you need musicians, scriptwriters, translators, lawyers and many other people who can take care of everything that happens in the background. After all, gaming companies are just like every other business and they have to deal with the same issues as companies in other industries. There will always be HR issues, legal issues, maintenance issues and other kinds of administrative issues.

2. Gaming Does only Mean Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony

The gaming industry is a lot larger than you think it is and there are dozens if not hundreds of companies that offer their products to an extremely wide gaming audience. If you are looking for a job in gaming you do not only need to focus on companies like Nintendo or RockStar. There are many developers who work with many different types of software and hardware. For example, you could get a gaming job with an online casino game developer and help create games such as the ones one can play in real-time with live dealers at an online casino. Games like Roulette and Blackjack require just as much development as traditional video games and the studios that develop them need a lot of people in order to take care of business.

3. Game Development Can Be a Long Journey

Developing games cannot be done overnight. It requires years of development, multiple tests and serious planning. For a game to be released, large teams of professionals need to work in unison for several years and when the job is done, they just move on to the next project. Some professionals have worked on specific projects for decades. For example, the team that developed Mortal Kombat has more or less been the same for almost thirty years. Some additions and some team changes are necessary of course, but when the group is done with one Mortal Kombat, it is normally time for the development of the next game in the series. On top of that, the group needs to help with the day-to-day maintenance of the current game, as many of the features in modern games are online and they require a lot of upkeep.

4. Some Gaming Projects Are Harder than Others

A job in the gaming industry would be considered a dream job for many, as you may end up working on the development of a game like GTA6, but it is worth remembering that it does not come without challenges. Gaming companies are not known for their flexibility in terms of dealing with errors and sometimes, when things go wrong, they can go really wrong. Who can forget about Cyberpunk and who can forget about Red Dead Redemption 2. These two projects had people working around the clock in order for the end result to be perfect and even if the development teams did their best, there were still issues when the games went live.
