Launched in 2017, Sony HT-ST5000 is an 1180 mm wide soundbar alongside a wireless sub which gives excellent audio quality. It is Sony’s first soundbar to launch with Dolby Atmos support.

Sony HT-ST5000 is a 7.1.2 channel soundbar with features like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, High-Res Audio support, built-in Chromecast, Bluetooth, and dual-band Wi-Fi. The price of the soundbar is also expensive. It comes at a price of around $1,500, £1,500, AU$2,436.

You just need to configure this soundbar in settings and have to select ‘Enhanced’ over Standard Settings. After configuring, you can enjoy 4K 60fps videos from sources like Amazon Fire 4K, UHD player, Xbox One X, etc. The soundbar offers AV receiver versatility.

There is a USB port on the left side of the soundbar. So, you can enjoy local file playback via a pen drive. Optical digital audio input and stereo minijack, a 3.5mm jack are also available on Sony HT-ST5000.

An Ethernet LAN port enables wired networking, but there are also Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the latter with NFC pairing and Sony’s proprietary LDAC headroom extension.

There are buttons for power, inputs, and volume slightly hidden on the back of the unit. The remote is a better choice for controlling the unit. It has a sound field, subwoofer volume, and home for bringing up the on-screen menu buttons which are very useful.

The overall experience with the Sony HT-ST5000 is superb. There are different sound mode options like Dolby Surround, Music Mode, Game Studio Mode that give brilliant sound effects.

You can stream music to the soundbar via Wi-Fi, through the ethernet port, or Bluetooth 4.1 connection. For those wanting to use their phone to help stream music, Spotify Connect is also built into the HT-ST5000, Google Chromecast for Tidal, or Google Play Music users.
